Program Day Internship

Traveling Stories designed the Program Day Internship to bring highly qualified and motivated students with diverse backgrounds into Traveling Stories to support the work of the Virtual StoryTent Program. Our goal is to give successful candidates the opportunity to improve their skills in the areas of project management, risk management, and communication. 

Who Can Apply?

Students who are enrolled in school and between the ages of 15-20 years old. If 18+, student must be able to pass a background check (background check fee covered by organization).

Time Commitment & Schedule

2.5 hours a week for 20 weeks

Internship is 100% Virtual

2023  Dates: 

January 18/19 to May 31/June 1

June 14/15 to November 13/14

Available Shifts:  

Wednesdays at 3:15 - 4:20, 4:15 - 5:20, 5:15 - 6:20pm Pacific Time 

Thursdays at 3:15 - 4:20, 4:15 - 5:20, 5:15 - 6:20pm Pacific Time 

Interns will select 2 shifts (each shift is the same time/day each week. 

What will the internship involve? 

Program interns work as a team of 3 to conduct the Virtual StoryTent program. Each intern will be trained to do all 3 roles. In performing each role, interns will be able to support their team members & gain a wide variety of leadership, communication, public speaking, organization, and problem solving skills.

Role 1: Captain

The Captain hosts the reading sessions on Zoom and is responsible for managing breakout rooms, sending reminder broadcasts, closing the breakout rooms, & ending the Zoom call. The Captain is the main point of contact for the call that week & can put Help Desk or the Greeter into a breakout room to provide support when needed. 

Skills utilized: Leadership, adaptability, time management, problem solving, verbal communication 

Role: Help Desk

The Help Desk co-hosts the reading sessions on Zoom and is responsible for updating & managing the attendance spreadsheet as mentors & readers enter the Zoom call. Help Desk also sends reminder texts (using Traveling Stories’ texting software) when a mentor or reader is late.

Skills utilized: organization, written communication & verbal communication

Role 3: Greeter

A Greeter co-hosts the reading sessions on Zoom and is responsible for greeting program participants as they enter the call. Greeters keep the conversation going while the Captain & Help Desk focus on their tasks. If needed, Greeters facilitate friendly introductions between readers and subs. The Greeter is also an emergency substitute and can fill in to read with a child if needed. 

  • Skills utilized: Public speaking, engaging with people from different ages & backgrounds
