Read Across America Day
The National Education Association has promoted reading in this nation wide event every year on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’ birthday!
Why celebrate Dr. Seuss on Read Across America Day? According to the NEA, “People of all ages love his books…When we celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading, we send a clear message to America’s children that reading is fun and important.”
Although Read Across America Day is officially March 2nd, many schools and educational outlets celebrate the whole week long! The schools in the country that are not in session on that date, due to the tail end of February vacation, usually celebrate the following week. After all, it would be a shame to miss such a bookish event!
Among all the reading that takes place, schools often have Seuss themed activities happening during the week as well. Examples of activities we have heard about include: Wear You Hair Like a Who Day, Cat in the Hat – Hat Day, and Dress Like Your Favorite Seuss Character Day!
Some schools even have birthday cake in honor of Dr. Seuss!
Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ B-Day with Traveling Stories!
Join us tomorrow, Tuesday March 5th, for a fun evening with Traveling Stories to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with the whole family!
This special Storytime will be held at Waypoint Public (North Park), beginning at 5pm PST, and will be filled with Dr. Seuss’ classics! Kids will also experience a surprise visit from the one-and-only Cat in the Hat! There will be tasty treats for the young readers, prizes and so much more!
Waypoint will also have some fun beers so that parents can partake in the celebration as well!
We hope to see you all here!
