Traveling Stories May Volunteer of the Month

Each month Traveling Stories will be highlighting one of our incredible team members as the Volunteer of the Month!

For this post we wanted to introduce everyone to May’s Volunteer of the Month – Tori Klunk!

Get to Know Tori!

What made you fall in love with Traveling Stories and why did you choose to continue to volunteer with us after your move?

Where do I start with this one… Can I say everything? Haha! Having the opportunity to work with kids and see them improve their reading skills, getting to see them and their families every week, working with an amazing group of people who all have an infectious love for helping others… so many reasons I loved Traveling Stories. Honestly, when leaving San Diego, it made me REALLY sad that I wouldn’t be able to keep volunteering with Traveling Stories… so after hearing that there was an opportunity that I could help with from LA, I had to jump on it!

What is your favorite memory with Traveling Stories?

My all-time favorite memory had to be when the children that we had taken on a StoryTent field trip wanted to give the extra bag lunches that we had to homeless individuals they saw at Balboa Park. The kids were so happy to share the extra lunches that we had with others who needed it. It touched my heart to see their love for helping others at such a young age.

If you could travel anywhere in the world today, where would you go and why?

I would love to go to Africa or Southeast Asia on a missions trip one day. I’ve always wanted to go a village in either of these areas for more of a long-term trip to experience what living daily life there is like, and to volunteer my time to help in any ways that they’d need.

Who is your favorite children’s book author and why do they inspire you?

A. A. Milne for the Winnie The Pooh Series. I think we can all learn a lot from Pooh’s joy and outlook on life. I’ve always loved Winnie the Pooh and all of the morals learned through his stories!

Please share with us your favorite quote of all time?

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” – Mother Teresa
