Traveling Stories March Volunteer of the Month
Each month Traveling Stories will be highlighting one of our incredible team members as the Volunteer of the Month!
For this post we wanted to introduce everyone to March’s Volunteer of the Month – Aubrey Robinson!
Get to Know Aubrey!
How long have you been volunteering with Traveling Stories and what made you decide to volunteer with us?
I first heard about Traveling Stories because an organization I’m a part of at SDSU had volunteering events with them, but I was never able to go. About a year later when I was looking up volunteer organizations in San Diego, I came across Traveling Stories again and decided to check it out! I’ve always loved reading books to my little siblings at home, so it seemed like a great fit! I started volunteering in February and I’ve been loving it!
Why do you love reading with kids at the Traveling Stories’ StoryTents?
I love interacting with all the kids that show up! It’s always fun seeing the same kids that come regularly, but getting to read to first time kids is really great too. I love being able to see their personalities in the books they choose to read, it’s probably my favorite part!
Do you have a favorite memory you can share with us about your time with Traveling Stories?
It’s hard to pick one stand out memory because I’ve had such a great experience since I started! One of my favorite memories volunteering is any time a kid signs in with a “neutral” face about reading, but leaves with a “happy” face about reading. It’s always encouraging knowing we’re making a difference and leaving the kids feeling excited about reading!
What is your favorite children’s book?
My favorite children’s book has always been “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein. My parents would read that to me growing up, so it holds a special place in my heart. Plus it’s easy to follow along with for kids, but has a good message at the end!
If you were a Super Hero, who would you be and why?
I would definitely be Wonder Woman! She basically has all the super powers combined, plus being able to fly means I would save so much money on not buying airplane tickets!
Thank You Woodstock’s Pizza!
A BIG Traveling Stories thank you goes out to Woodstock’s Pizza in San Diego!
Woodstock’s Pizza has been generous enough to donate a gift certificate, good for one free pizza, to each of our volunteers of the month!
Make sure to check them out at 1221 Garnet Ave in San Diego when you are in the mood for delicious food!
