What Is #GivingTuesday?
The first Tuesday following Thanksgiving, known as #GivingTuesday, is a global day of giving that bonds together both individuals and organizations for one common cause – to do good!
Now in it’s SEVENTH YEAR, #GivingTuesday has empowered thousands of organizations in 150 different countries to give back.
Just last year, 21.7 billion #GivingTuesday social media mentions lead to more than 2.5 million online contributions being made. This amounted to greater than $300 million in donations! This was a 44% increase from the 2016 total!

On this #GivingTuesday Traveling Stories has decided to launch our year-end campaign which focuses on the cost of illiteracy vs the cost of prevention.
Let’s compare how much the lack of literacy costs society to the price of getting kids to fall in love with reading:
- 82% of children in low-income families can’t read at grade level by the 4th grade. Of them, two-thirds will end up in jail or on welfare. (—NAEP)
- $5.5 billion = cost of incarceration in CA every year
- $640 million = cost of welfare in CA every year
- $14 million = cost to provide reading support to every child in a low-income household in San Diego every year
Our goal for the 2018 year-end campaign is to raise $30,000!
In 2018, nearly 2,000 children benefited from our weekly StoryTent programs. Will you help us raise the funds we need to continue empowering these children and their friends in 2019?
