One of the most exciting things about summer, at least in our opinion, is all of the summer reading programs that pop up!

It is so exciting to see schools, libraries, organizations like us, as well as major corporations, all encouraging young minds to spend their summer reading!

Scholastic, a big name in the book world (I lived off of their book fairs during my 12 years of grade school), has a HUGE summer reading program that they offer to any child interested in participating.

During the summer of 2014, Scholastic logged 276,426 children, located in 29 different countries, read for a combined total of 304,749,681 minutes! How incredible is that!! As stated on their website, Scholastic is hoping to beat that record this summer.

Children are able to create an account on the Scholastic website and log all of their minutes read. As each child records minutes into their account, they gain point which can be used to unlock prizes. These prizes include 12 stories from authors such as, R.L. Stine, Lauren Tarshis, Roland Smith, and Gordon Korman. Nothing better than being rewarded for reading with more reading material!

Students and teachers are also able to register under their school name. The benefit to this is that the schools with the most hours will win some pretty amazing prizes!

This particular program runs from May 4th to September 4th.

We encourage you to explore the different summer reading program out there this summer, and make sure to sign you or your child up! We guarantee you will have a good time!
