Reading is Sexy

We believe that being well-read and intelligent is sexy – so we’ve created a line of merchandise that says so. Reading is Sexy is a shirt for adults that funds literacy programs for kids. One hundred percent of profits from anything sold through our online store goes directly toward providing free reading support to kids.

In 2012 we created a Reading is Sexy calendar and celebrated it’s launch at The W hotel in Downtown San Diego. Photographers and artist across San Diego contributed their skills to show how sexy reading is and to help Traveling Stories raise money to build a library in El Salvador.

Write yourself into the story. Purchase one of the #ReadingIsSexy T-shirts and help us share the message on all of your social channels.  We’ve even pre-written some posts for you here.

** 100% of your purchase will support Traveling Stories’ local and international literacy programs.**

Outsmarting poverty one book at a time.

While we love to read simply for the fun of it, we also believe it’s one of the strongest tools for fighting poverty. Imagine not being able to read? You wouldn’t be able to fill out a job application, read a recipe or help you own child with their homework without getting help. Being a strong reader allows you to be independent. It’s not enough to inspire a love for reading, Traveling Stories also wants to provide the skills people need to outsmart poverty in their own community.

Read To Lead.

Read to Lead was one of the first campaigns we created for the kids at the StoryTent. We want to not only teach kids that they can be leaders, but show them ways in which reading and investing in your mind empowers you to be a better leader. As part of this campaign we invite leaders from the community to visit the StoryTent and speak to kids about their career and ways in which reading and education helped them become successful.  We’ve had surgeons, authors, professional athletes and more participate in this campaign.

Reading is My Superpower

Inspired by our partnership with IDW Publishing, one of the nation’s largest comic book publishers, we challenge kids to look at reading as a superpower.  Every child received a “reading is my superpower” bracelet to remind them daily of the power of the page! Photographer Andrew Flores sponsored a professional super hero photo shoot and kids expressed their powers in fun, creative ways. Click here to see some of the photos.
